Located next to H45 On SE Hawthorne and 44th, this 4 story 25 unit loft live + work building is designed to fit with the adjacent design to make a half block scheme out of two separate projects built at different intervals. A thin line folded line describes the basic forms tying the two together both physically and visually. The use of wood and exposed concrete explore Light+ Heavy, Smooth + Rough, Dark + Light while bringing scale and texture to the streetscape. Color is also used in a painterly canvas like manner to further tie together the building at their asymmetrical back facades creating a lyrical composition of random moments. The interiors are organized around a concrete exposed wall, fireplace and two large sliding doors installed as windows at the view side of the space. These elements articulate the mixed program of loft/studios and two story live/work units with spiral steel stairs.
