The program for this five bay, ten thousand square foot existing 1920 train depot building in the Pearl District includes a private residence, guest quarters, exhibit space and a public Art Gallery housing Michael Del Castello’s world class Americana collection.
The early design elements reflect the industrial nature of the existing buildings while exploring new materials that are also industrial but relate to the scale of a private residence. The open plan is punctuated by a three story top hung steel staircase with glass treads that connect vertical display floors with the roof terrace. The Architectural language of this project was further explored in the final condensed version whichwas completed in 2003.
