PCC Sylvania Campus new Library, Forum and Book Store was the result of a Campus master plan that determined where expansion would occur providing a site for these new buildings, resulting in a new complex of structures that redefined the center of the campus.
The architectural language is a series of poured in place concrete walls with long span steel elements forming a clear expression of light/ heavy and tension/compression.
The Library splits open along it’s central spine which is articulated by a skylight system which bounces light throughout the central areas of the Library, forming a “light corridor” which houses the central stairs. The Forum is designed in a circular fashion which throws the stage into the audience and is punctuated by a modified fly tower making this performance space one of the best in Portland. The steel and glass tower marks a new courtyard bringing a vertical element to the otherwise horizontal two story campus.
