This proposed residence is for a single father who has an interest in
cycling and road racing. Located in Portland’s west slope, this design
explores tension and compression creating transparent elements
constructed out of lightweight steel elements contrasted with its simple
concrete primary shell box.
The unusual topography and large tree located on the site allowed a physical split in
the program elements which is articulated by a new bridge element that allows
the winter rains to pass under. This element also helps to create a social
area that relates to the winding road that is used on a daily
schedule by cycling enthusiasts.
